What's next

Where Lineage Tracker is heading, and how you can help steer it.

The app is free forever and works fully on its own, on your device. The next big idea is an optional online side, and it comes with a clear rule: we are not a forum, and we are not building a community of our own.

Growers and breeders already have good ones: clubs, seed libraries, breed societies, forums, and the Facebook, Discord and other online groups people use every day. Lineage Tracker is here to strengthen those, by helping people find the groups and growers that suit them and by giving everyone better records to share.

The app stays free forever. No paid tiers, no ads. Everything on this page is optional and lives on the website, and nothing from the website is ever shown in the app. If you never log in to the website, nothing changes for you.

Nothing below is live yet. These are plans, not promises, and they may change. There are no dates here, because we'd rather get it right than get it fast.

Coming soon

Each one is meant to help existing communities, not compete with them. In rough order; tell us what you'd use first and it may change. Under development means we are building it now. Planned means it is on the list.

Next up

Find growers and groups

A directory to find other growers and breeders by what they keep and roughly where they are, and to point to the clubs and groups they already belong to. You choose to join, and you choose what appears: an alias made for you (never your real name), a general area, and the varieties or breeds you grow. Badges show whether someone uses the app, and for how long, or joined through the website only. Suppliers and breeders can be introduced here too, through a linked account, with a link to their own site; they handle orders. Groups are sorted by plants or animals, what they cover, and how close they are, from your own region out to worldwide.

Planned

Breeder pages

A page for a project of yours: the goal, how many generations you've been through, and photos you pick. Nothing is published unless you choose it.

Planned

Seed swap directory

Members say what they have, whether it is for sale, swap or free, and what they are looking for if it is a swap. Seed, cuttings, clones, young plants or hatching eggs, with no prices. How many a member can list depends on how long they have used the app and their standing. Anyone can see what is on offer, but names, profiles and introductions are for members, and only members can post or reply. Arrangements are made between members, and Lineage Tracker never handles payment.

Under development

The globe

An interactive 3D globe of what is grown where, with a filter panel to narrow it by plant, animal, breed or variety. Pick a plant or breed from the lists, or search for a specific variety, and see where members grow it. It works at region level: the first area under a state or province, such as the Hunter or the Northern Rivers in New South Wales. Nothing is shown more precisely than that: no towns, no postcodes, and only members who choose to be counted appear. You can try the demo, with made-up data.

Under development

LT-Print label designer

Design your own labels and stickers on a computer or tablet: drag in fields from your records, add your logo, QR codes, barcodes, automatic numbers, best-before dates and shapes, and arrange them with a feature tree where each part can be hidden, locked or switched off. Use your Lineage Tracker records, a spreadsheet, or type your own straight in (handy for shipping labels and club stock). Then print whole sheets, your own sticker sheets, or one at a time on a label printer. It starts from the app's sticker layouts. Free with a website account, and your designs are saved to your own Drive, Dropbox or device.

Planned

Variety pages

One page for each variety or breed: who grows it, how it does in different regions, and the photos and notes members choose to share.

Planned

Community trials

Today you can send a tester kit to someone in another area. Community trials would let growers volunteer for a trial near them and send their results back to the breeder.

How sharing will work

None of this is live. These are the rules we're building to.

  • Opt in, and out again. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to add it, item by item. The app keeps working fully on its own without any of this.
  • You decide what shows. An alias made for you and a general area are enough; your real name is never asked for. The globe never shows anything more precise than your region.
  • Details are for members. Visitors can look around, see the globe glowing and run a few searches a day. People's names, profiles and introductions are for signed-in members, and only members can post or reply.
  • Choices, not comments. Nothing a member types is shown publicly. What you see on listings, profiles and conduct records is chosen from fixed lists, so it can be searched and kept fair. Anything else goes privately to the site's admin.
  • Not another community. There is no forum, no public posts and no open inboxes. Instead, one member can send another a single introduction message, and the conversation moves on from there.
  • Introductions are double-blind. The person you write to sees your message but not your contact details. If they reply, you are both pointed to an existing group, or you can choose to swap email addresses.
  • Existing communities stay where they are. We point to the clubs, seed libraries, and Facebook, Discord and forum groups people already use around the world. Our job is to help people find them and join in, not to pull anyone away. The list comes from members: each can share a few sites they use, and every link is checked before it appears.
  • Badges and reputation. Badges show who uses the app, and for how long, and who is a web-only member. A reputation score will help filter out bad actors, and decide how closely a member's links are checked.
  • No payments, no personal details. As in the app, only what you type into a listing is shared, and Lineage Tracker never handles payment.
  • Security comes first. We'll keep members' details to the minimum needed and store them with security as the first requirement.
  • How it's paid for. Donations cover the running costs. If the website ever needs other income, we'll say so openly first, label it clearly, and keep it out of the app.

Recently added, and also on the list for the app

Just added

You choose what goes online

The cloud at the top of the app shows at a glance whether anything leaves your device. Switch sync, AI help and weather on or off in one place, or choose Work offline to pause them all. The fonts now come with the app too, so nothing is fetched from anywhere else.

Just added

Share photos

Pick 2 to 12 photos and make a collage, a slideshow video or a picture set for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and more, sized for tall, square or story and reel posts. A slim web-address strip is there for sites that remove branded posts.

Just added

Log tags and filters

Give any note several tags, your own or built-in, and filter the Log by plant, animal, variety, project or place, by tag, by date, or photos only.

Just added

Groups for varieties and breeds

Starter lists for plants and animals, plus your own groups. Tap a group to see only it, and crosses take their group from their parents.

Just added

Sticker labels

Five layouts, from a small tag to a fold-over sticker for tiny bags and a cage or pen label, on sheet sizes or your own measurements, with a live preview.

Just added

How much to add

Scan a fertiliser, spray or medicine label once, then see the amount for any size, in metric or imperial. There is a stand-alone calculator too.

Added

Breeding plan

Plan a project before you know which plants you will use: time periods, boxes still to be chosen, and dotted lines for the crosses you are thinking about. Record a cross and its line turns solid. A table or a graph, kept in step.

Planned

Reusable plan blocks, and joining projects

Save a year as a block and reuse it in a longer plan, and bring an offspring from one project into another to add variety.

Planned

Garden, farm and hydro planners

The same layered layouts, used to plan beds, pens and growing rooms. A long way off, but the plan editor is built with it in mind.

Added

Scan both sides of a packet

Take a photo of the front and the back of a seed packet. With smart features switched on, the details on both are read into your library.

Added

Photo labels

Say what each photo shows, such as seedling, flower or harvest, so photos can be told apart and used properly later.

Planned

Population cycles

Follow a line as a whole across selection cycles, including half-sib families and how hard you selected.

Planned

Flag a problem

Record a pest or disease on a plant, how bad it was, what you did about it, and how it turned out.

Planned

Google Play

The app is in testing. Once enough Android testers have helped, it can go on Google Play too.

Help decide what comes first

The best way to move something up the list is to tell us you'd use it. Testing helps just as much.
