Terms of use

The plain-English agreement for a website account.

Version terms-2026-10-15, 15 October 2026. These terms are only about the website account. The app is free, works without an account and has its own licence (see GitHub).

The short version.
  • You must be 18 or over, and have one account.
  • You get a made-up alias, so nobody needs to share a real name.
  • Be decent. No harassment, scams, spam, or anything unlawful.
  • Keep to the law about moving seeds, plants and animals (biosecurity, quarantine, protected species). That is your responsibility.
  • There are no prices or payments on this site, and we are not a forum, shop or broker.
  • We can remove content or accounts that cause harm.
  • You can delete your account from your account page whenever you like.

The full terms

1. Who can have an account

You must be 18 or over. When you create an account you confirm that you are. If we learn someone under 18 has one, we delete it. You may have one account. Use a real email address that you control.

2. Looking after your account

Keep your password to yourself and make it a good one. Tell us if you think someone else has got into your account. We will never ask for your password by email. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

3. Your alias

Your alias is generated for you and shown instead of your name. Do not try to find out who another member is, or to reveal who they are. If you choose to share more about yourself later, that is up to you and not something we control.

4. Behaving well

Do not use the site to harass, threaten, deceive or impersonate anyone, to send spam, to break the law, or to interfere with the site or other people’s accounts. Do not offer or ask for anything that is illegal to hold, grow, keep, send or sell, such as restricted or protected species, or material that breaks biosecurity or quarantine rules where you or the other person live. Laws about moving seeds, plants and animals differ between countries and states and are your responsibility.

5. What we may do

To keep the community safe we may remove content, limit what an account can do, suspend it, or delete it, with or without notice for serious breaches. We keep a record of moderation actions. If you think we got it wrong, write to feedback@lineagetracker.org.

6. What this site is and is not

The site helps people find each other and the clubs, seed libraries and groups that already exist. It is not a forum, a shop or a broker. There are no prices or payments here. We do not check members, or anything offered or described by them. Anything you arrange with another person is between you and them.

7. Blog posts

When the blog is open, members can write posts. Every post is read by our staff before it is published, and staff may use an AI service to help them review it; a person always decides. You keep the rights to what you write; by sending it for review you allow us to show it on the website and in links to it. Only post your own words and photos, or ones you have permission to use. No personal details of anyone (phone numbers, addresses or email addresses), nothing for sale and no advertising. You can take a post down at any time, and we can remove it. Published posts can be read by anyone.

8. The LT tools

Members can use the LT tools at tools.lineagetracker.org, starting with LT-Print, a label designer. Your designs and the records you load are kept on your device or in your own Google Drive or Dropbox, never by us, and you are responsible for what you print and for checking it is right. We record which tool you open and when, so we know who uses them. A tool may change, pause or close.

9. Your information

What we collect and why is explained in the privacy policy. You can download your data or delete your account from your account page at any time. If your account is waiting to be confirmed, or has been suspended, write to us and we will do it for you.

10. The app stays separate

The Lineage Tracker app never needs a website account, and nothing from the website changes how the app works. The app stays free.

11. No guarantees

We do our best, but the site is provided as it is, and it may change, pause or stop. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss that comes from using it or from anything members say or do. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot be excluded.

12. Changes

If we change these terms, we will publish a new version number and ask you to accept it the next time you sign in. If you do not accept, you can delete your account.

13. Ending

You can delete your account at any time from your account page (or by writing to us if you cannot sign in). We may end or suspend it as described above.

14. Law

These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales.

15. Contact

Questions are welcome through the feedback form or at feedback@lineagetracker.org.
