Getting started
Seed library from packet photosKnow exactly what seed you have. All modes
Photograph a packet and it goes into your library with the amount, year and best-before date. With a free Gemini key (or a Claude key), the name, species and source are read from the photo for you to check. If the AI is busy it tries again by itself, and if Google retires a Gemini model, the app switches to the new one automatically. You can take a second photo of the back of the packet, and the details on both sides are read; the second photo only fills in what is still empty.
Where: + › Scan a packet or label
Sources inside each varietyThe same variety from different places, kept together. All modes
Buy Choko from Cessnock and again from a seed swap, and both live inside one Choko as Choko-C1 and Choko-S1, each with its own received date. The variety page compares how each source grew. Adding a variety you already have offers to add a new source instead of a duplicate.
Where: Open a variety › Sources compared
Groups for your varietiesPumpkins with pumpkins, tomatoes with tomatoes. All modes
Sort varieties into groups such as Pumpkin or Tomato, from a starter list or your own. Rename, merge or delete groups, tap one to see only that group in the Library, and new crosses take their group from their parents. Your groups sync with your records.
Where: Library › Varieties › Manage groups
Check before buyingStanding in the shop? See if you already have it.All modes
Type the name on the packet. It finds close matches like "Money Maker" for "Moneymaker", shows how much you have and how old it is, and warns about F1 hybrids. Works without internet.
Where: Home › Check before buying
Season planList what you'll grow, and spot problems early. All modes
Pick varieties for the season. It checks you have enough seed, that it's not too old, whether you mean to save seed from an F1, and which varieties could cross. Tapping Sown takes the seed off the packet.

Seed traysA tray ID, cell positions, then pot up the survivors. All modes
Each tray gets an ID like T01 and each cell a position like A1. Tap cells as they come up to see the germination rate, then pot up the ones you keep as labelled plants.
Where: Open a packet › Sow a tray

Growing
My garden pageEverything you set up, in one place. All modes
The fence button at the top of the screen opens My garden: beds, weather, inputs, harvests, varieties and packets, season plan, seed trays, labels and backups, each with a count and a quick add button.
Where: Top of the screen › My garden
Groups: a whole bed as one entryTwo beds of chokos with squash along the front? One entry. All modes
Add a bed, patch or row as a group, even with mixed varieties and rough counts. Fertiliser, sprays, harvests and photos are recorded for the whole group at once, and a standout plant can be tracked separately later.
Where: Plants tab › Add a group
Your plantsEvery plant that matters gets its own record. All modes
Each plant gets a label code, a photo timeline and notes, and records how it started: from seed (and which packet), a cutting, or bought as a seedling. Move or repot keeps a dated history of where it has grown. Label each photo as a seedling, flower, harvest and so on, so photos can be told apart later.
Where: Plants tab › Add a plant
Labels and stickers with QR codesStake labels and packet stickers that open the record.Seed saver and Breeder
Print stake labels, or stickers in five layouts: a small tag, a front sticker, a branded packet sticker, a wrap-around fold-over for tiny bags, and a cage or pen label. Choose a sheet size or your own measurements, tick what to print and check the live preview. Scanning the QR code with a phone camera opens that plant or packet in the app.
Where: Plants tab › Labels
Fertiliser and spraysWhat went on, how much, and when it's safe to harvest. All modes
Set up each fertiliser or spray once with the label rate and withholding period. Log it against one plant, a whole bed, a tray or a project. It shows "don't harvest until" dates, repeat reminders such as a fortnightly feed, and season totals.
Where: My garden › Inputs
How much to addRead the label once, then get the amount for any size. All modes
Scan a product label (or copy and paste it with Claude or ChatGPT) and the printed rate is saved, such as 20 mL per litre. Then pick or type a size, in litres, gallons, m², ft², kg or lb, and see exactly how much to add, on the input page or while you log it. There is also a stand-alone calculator for any label, and the app remembers your last size.
Where: Library › Inputs › Calculator
Beds, pots and greenhousesSet up where things grow. All modes
Record where each plant grows, compare how beds perform, and log an input or a harvest for everything in a bed at once.
Where: My garden › Beds, pots and greenhouses
Weather by seasonHow this season compares with a usual one.All modes
Add your location to see rain, heat days, frost nights and growing heat against the usual year, alongside your results. Add your own rain gauge readings or import a weather station file.
Where: My garden › Weather
HarvestsWhat each bed and plant produces. All modes
Set up what you grow once, such as tomatoes in kilograms or pumpkins by count and weight. Record harvests against a plant, a bed or a tray, and see season totals next to the fertiliser and sprays used.
Where: + › Record a harvest
Due listWhat needs doing next. All modes
Worked out from your records: trays to check, fruit set after hand pollination, storage checks, germination tests, feeds and your own reminders.
Where: Home › Due
Saving seed and breeding
Seed-saving guidanceHow each crop pollinates and how far apart to keep varieties.Seed saver and Breeder
For about 25 common crops: whether it pollinates itself or needs insects or wind, isolation distances, and how many plants to save seed from.
Where: Open a variety
Germination testsFind out if old seed is still good.Seed saver and Breeder
Count sprouts over a few days. It works out the rate and tells you when a packet needs regrowing.
Where: Open a seed packet › Germination tests
Crosses and hand pollinationRecord every cross and how many took.Seed saver and Breeder
Record the parents, method, attempts and results. You get a reminder to check fruit set, and each cross can get a code like 26C-1 to write on the flower tag.
Where: Open a plant › Cross
Cuttings and clonesPropagate a plant and keep the link to it.All modes
Record cuttings, divisions, runners or grafts as one batch or as separate plants. Clones share their source plant's family line.
Where: Open a plant › Take cuttings or divide
Breeding planPlan the crosses before you know which plants you'll use.Breeder
Lay a project out in time periods such as Year 1 and Year 2. Add the plants you start with, add boxes for plants still to be chosen, and draw the crosses you are thinking about: one way, both ways or selfed. Dotted lines are planned; when you record a cross from its line, the line turns solid. Choose the real plant for a box later and it locks in. See it as a table or a graph. Deleting part of a plan never deletes your real plants or records.
Where: Projects tab › Open a project › Breeding plan
Breeding projects and goalsWhat you're breeding towards, with history.Breeder
Write the goal, what's in and out of scope and what success looks like. Every revision is kept with the reason, so you can see how the project evolved.
Where: Projects tab › New project
Why you kept itSelection reasons, so you remember in three years.Seed saver and Breeder
When a plant is marked Selected, Kept or Rejected, tick the reasons from your target traits and add a note. Standard trait definitions keep scores comparable from season to season.
Where: Open a plant › Edit, then Status
Tester kitsGrow your line in other areas.Breeder
Send seed with a small kit file. Testers in any mode record a few things in their own Lineage Tracker and send the results back, with their general area and season weather, straight into your project.
Where: Open a project › Make a tester kit
Selection scoresScore candidates against your targets.Breeder
Score each plant 1 to 5 on your target traits, compare them side by side, and step through a whole family quickly at harvest.
Where: Open a project › Scoring session
Bloodline chartA family tree of the whole project.Breeder
See where every plant came from and how much of each original variety it carries. Tap one to trace its ancestors and descendants.
Where: Open a project › Bloodline chart
Flowering overlapWill these two flower at the same time?Seed saver and Breeder
Tap First male flower and First female flower on each plant. Each project gets a flowering timeline, and the cross planner warns when two parents won't overlap.
Where: Open a plant › First female flower
Cross cardsShare a cross at every stage.Seed saver and Breeder
Both parents side by side with a big ×, from Waiting on flowers to Pollinated to seeds saved. Great for "just waiting on the flowers" posts.
Where: Open a cross › Share this cross
Tag names and pedigreesTags that write themselves.Breeder
Each project chooses its tag style, like AB-F2-P14 or the breeders' selection history 26C1-3-12. Generations are worked out from the parents, including backcrosses, and every plant shows its pedigree, like BF/SA//SA.
Where: New project › Tag names
Cross planner and progressPlan the next crosses and see if selection is working.Breeder
Plan crosses ahead of flowering, see success rates by pairing, and compare average and best scores from one generation to the next.

Sharing
Share photosA collage, slideshow or picture set.All modes
Pick 2 to 12 photos of a variety, plant or project, or from the Log, and make a collage, a slideshow video or a set of pictures to post together, sized for tall, square or story and reel posts. The Lineage Tracker credit is always on: the full footer, or a slim web-address strip for sites that remove branded posts.
Where: + › Share photos
ListsYour own sub-lists, and lists from others. All modes
Group your varieties however you like: veggies, flowers, a seed bank catalogue. Lists other people send you can be browsed, starred into a wishlist and imported into your library, keeping where they came from.
Where: Lists button, top of the screen
Share with a friendOffer spare seed, with its history. All modes
Makes a picture and message to send. Optionally attach a gift file your friend can open in their own Lineage Tracker, so the variety's story goes with the seed.
